MODA

I chose this photo from the exhibition "Cover Shot" and it was taken from the cover of a book called "Towards an Australian architecture" that was edited and photographed by Harry Sowden in 1970. I chose this shot because of how it made me feel, it’s almost like it hurts to look at as it forms a sort of optical illusion. It’s as if it almost creates a sort of fear or daunt due to the use of a wide lens making the building almost never endless. From what I read about that exhibition it seems like the photographer was trying to portray buildings in a much grander scale in post war Britain. It also made me rethink what it was, because at first I thought it was a piano, I had to almost have a double take to realize that it was in fact a high-rise building. Because of that optical illusion I find this photograph incredibly interesting and eye catching and different in comparison to the rest of the exhibition.

How wearing socks feels

Socks are one of those things we all wear, most of the time. They are staples in everyones wardrobes yet often taken for granted. They shield our feet from the cold, from burns cause by the rubbing of the shoe sole against our skin, they absorb sweat to protect us from the pain of getting blisters but for me they are also an incredibly important part of my style. As a person who tends to wear a lot of cropped trousers, putting on that fresh pair of white sports socks really completes my look.  Seeing my outfit in reflective surfaces makes me feel confident and allows me to keep a positive mindset through out the day but I know there have been times where i don't have any washed white socks left and it completely ruins my belief in what I'm wearing. Its almost like the white socks make or break an outfit for me and as i consider my clothes an extension of who i am, if I'm not happy with what I'm wearing then i loose a big part of myself and my confidence. However wearing sports socks can almost feel like a chore, especially if I'm wearing cropped trousers. As I'm walking around my socks tend to slide down and end up creating pleats around my ankle which feels incredibly uncomfortable to me. So that feeling of my socks sliding down is constantly at the back of my head and as soon as i feel it i make sure to pull the sock straight back up again. Wearing socks can be a thing that almost seems invisible in comparison to what goes on in the world, but its something we all have in common and for me personally it has become a peace of clothing i rely on not only for comfort but also for happiness and confidence.
